The Pennsylvania House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 705, which would require school districts to establish parent involvement programs if there are currently none in place. The bill requires school districts to identify existing resources, activities or materials in the district that may be used by parents to improve the academic achievement of students and supplemental techniques that can be used by parents at home to support the academic achievement of students. HB 705 also requires the identification of a districtwide system of communicating information between parents and school officials regarding the curriculum and academic goals of the district, as well as supplemental academic services available to students whose score on any PSSA test is below proficient.
