Does your education association tell you how to vote? Does your education association use your dues dollars to pay for political agendas that may be different from your own? KEYTA members can answer no to both of those questions. Members of the PSEA, NEA and their local union affiliates are not so lucky and are not independent of their union’s political agenda. As shown on reports garnered from the U.S. Department of Labor, in the past two years, the National Education Association has used $950,000 of member dues dollars to assist in funding the push for our nation’s new public health care system. The NEA also used member dues to contribute $1 million toward the 2008 Democratic National Convention. This is all in addition to spending tens of thousands of dollars on organizations that push for the advancement of non-educational causes. Unlike NEA members, KEYTA members are independent of the good opinion of others, for we will never use dues dollars to fund the advancement of any political party or agenda, and while we may inform our members of candidates’ positions on educational issues, we will never tell our members for whom they should vote.
